FAQ

In what situations can a passport be renewed at the embassy?

If the passport has less than one year left before expiration
If the passport is about to run out of pages
If the passport is lost, damaged, or destroyed
If the passport details need to be corrected


What documents are required to renew a passport at the Embassy?

Original passport and a copy (For a lost passport, a copy of the passport and a police report are required.)
Original citizenship certificate or a clear copy
For minors under 16 years of age, the following are required: original passport, minor's identity card, parents' marriage certificate, parents' passports, and copies of their citizenship certificates.


How long does it take for the passport to be issued?

It generally takes 40 to 60 days for the passport to be ready.

Is an appointment required to get documents (marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.) certified?

An appointment is not required to authenticate documents; however, you must come between the designated consular hours (10 AM to 2 PM).

What is required for a birth certificate?

You must go to the embassy's website, click on the link under “Registration” at https://public.donidcr.gov.np, and fill out the birth certificate form. After completing the form, bring the token number you receive and the required documents to the indicated counter. (the father, mother, or an adult family member) must come to the Embassy.

Required Documents:

Copies of the parents' citizenship and passport certificates,
Certificate or vaccination card issued by the health institution/hospital if born there
Marriage registration certificate
Online birth notification form.
Fee: Free of charge if submitted within 35 days of the event, otherwise 25 euros.

What is the procedure for authenticating a power of attorney from the Embassy?

For the sale, distribution, or other transaction or transfer of registration of immovable property or other real estate registered or owned in your name or to have a power of attorney certified by this Embassy for purposes such as dividing property, transferring your rights or interests to other family members or any other person, or appointing an agent to litigate in court, the following procedure must be completed.

A statement prepared by the person granting the power of attorney, addressed to the Embassy, must be submitted.
In accordance with legal procedures in the Nepalese court system, two copies of the document—the power of attorney—must be prepared on Nepali paper, with the names and signatures of two witnesses.
The authorized power of attorney document must have the recipient's photo affixed, a thumbprint, and their signature.
To have an authorized power of attorney authenticated, you must contact the Embassy in advance to schedule an appointment before coming.

Documents to be attached:

A certified copy of the recipient's citizenship certificate and the original and a copy of the grantor's citizenship certificate.
A certified copy of the witness's citizenship certificate and a copy of the drafter's identification card.
A certified copy or the original of the property certificate for real estate or property registered in the applicant's name.
In the case of divorce, the original or a certified copy of the marriage registration certificate.
Two recent passport-sized photos of the grantor of the power of attorney.

How much does it cost to get a power of attorney certified by the embassy?

A fee of 5 euros will be charged for cases not specified in the Civil Procedure Code of 2074, Section 154, Subsection 5, regarding the transfer of rights to immovable property.
A fee of 5 euros will be charged for a power of attorney for the transfer of rights to immovable property when the relationship is within three generations.
A fee of 40 euros will be charged for a power of attorney for the transfer of property rights to persons outside the three-generation relationship, as per Sub-section 5 of Section 154 of the Civil Procedure Code, 2074.
