Embassy of Nepal,Madrid hosted “Nepal-Espa: Connecting Culture and Hearts” event on March 11, 2023. The event brought together children adopted from Nepal living in Spain to connect with their cultural roots and strengthen their emotional ties to Nepal.
The event started by welcoming adoptees in Nepali style by putting them khada. Then Her Excellency, Ambassador of Nepal to Spain, Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, formally started the program with her welcome address, She expressed gratitude to all those who participated in the event and made it a memorable one. She emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and the determination of the attendees to work for Spain and Nepal. She also expressed her gratitude to their Spanish family for making them an independent and capable individual. She expressed that “this event has strengthened their connection with Nepal and its people.”
Furthermore, Her Excellency Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal committed in:
- Recognizing Nepal-Espa group and collaborating on coming days to carry out different activities.
- Organizing Nepali language class once a week online.
- Forming a 10 member Nepal-Espa committee to work on sectors like trade, investment, culture, sports, technology and social work.
Similarly, Participants introduced themselves shared their feelings about Nepal, insights on the challenges and benefits of maintaining a connection with Nepalese culture and traditions. Attendees also enjoyed the cultural activities, like singing Nepali song dancing in Nepali songs and with many trying Nepalese food like momo, selroti, dal bhat and other items for the first time. Embassy of Nepal, Madrid thanked the attendees by providing them with token of Love typical handmade paper from Nepal. Special recognization was given to Me. Sangita Soto Torres who coordinated with the Embassy to make this event and Nepa-Espa a success.
The Embassy of Nepal in Madrid is committed to strengthening ties with the Nepalese community in Spain, and the “Nepal-Espa: Connecting Culture and Hearts” event was a great success in furthering this goal. The embassy hopes to host similar events in the future to continue building connections with Nepalese adoptees and their families in Spain.
The event was attended by thirty of Nepali adoptees. Embassy officials and family of ambassador also. Overall, it felt like a family event.
