Diplomatic Visa / Official Visa

  • Except in cases where a special order has been issued by Nepal government the diplomatic visa shall be issued to a person holding a diplomatic/Official passport issued from any country and recommended from the concerned foreign diplomatic mission for the diplomatic/Official visa, to a person considered fit to be granted diplomatic privileges by Nepal Government and the family members of such person holding the diplomatic passport.
  • The diplomatic/official visa shall be issued on the basis of reciprocity; the term thereof may be extended at a time or from time to time for the term of the assignment in Nepal.


Required Documents for Diplomatic/Official Visa:

  1. Duly Filled Visa Application Form.
  2. Actual Passport with at least 6 months of validity and a copy of Passport ID page.
  3. Passport must contain at least 2 blank visa pages.
  4. A note verbal from the State Department/diplomatic mission/ international organization or equivalent offices with a request for a diplomatic visa, stating clearly the purpose and period of the visit.
  5. A travel itinerary.
  6. Submit above documents via post or Courier or drop off or in person at embassy.
  7. Diplomatic/official visas are provided for gratis.


Tourist Visa

  1. The foreign tourist visiting Nepal shall be granted the tourist visa.
  2. The tourist visa shall be granted for a period in maximum of 150 days in a visa year (Visa years means January to December).
  3. A tourist who has departed before the expiry of the period specified in the visa issued in a visa year shall not be allowed to use the visa by adding the remaining period to another visa year.
  4. If any foreigner who has entered into Nepal towards the end of a visa year desires to spend even the period during which he may stay in Nepal with the tourist visa of the other visa year, he may use such facility. Provided, however, that the computation of the fees for such period shall be made on the basis of the total period of his stay.


Documents required for applying Tourist visa:

  1. Actual Passport with at least 6 months of validity.
  2. Passport must contain at least 2 blank visa pages.
  3. Submit above documents via post or drop off.


 Documents Required for Travel Document Holders:

  1. Original travel document with at least 6 months’ validity.
  2. One recent passport-size photograph
  3. Duly filled in and signed visa application form
  4. Self-signed sponsorship letter by a Nepalese national
  5. A copy of the citizenship certificate of the sponsor

  • Children under ten years old will get visa free of charge.
  • Visa once issued cannot be withdrawn, visa fee cannot be refunded after visa is issued, and it must be used within six months from the date of issue.
  • Visa Extension- A tourist visa can be extended at the Department of Immigration, Kathmandu or the Immigration Office, Pokhara for a maximum period of 150 days in a single visa year (January – December).
