The Embassy of Nepal in Spain organized an ‘Interaction Program on Nepali Women in Politics and Diplomacy’ at Nepal House on 14 MAR 2024.
The program began with a welcome speech from H.E. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal to Spain. Ambassador Dr. Parajuli not only highlighted the constitutional guarantees for women’s rights in Nepal but also shed light on the tangible achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the status of women in Nepali society. She underscored the importance of the “Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal” program, a government initiative designed to elevate women’s economic and social standing through comprehensive community engagement and policy reforms.
This was followed by an address from Mrs. Renu Dahal, Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, in which she reflected on the struggles and sacrifices of Nepali women in politics in the past, and the positive outcomes of those struggles and sacrifices, which have led to the appointment of the first female President, a female Chief Justice, and a female Speaker of Nepal, and which have also ensured a
33 percent representation of women in Nepal’s Parliament.
Following Mayor Mrs. Dahal’s speech, the program transitioned into a series of Q&A sessions emphasizing the critical role of women in the political and diplomatic arenas of Nepal.
Questions from junior female leaders and IE University students were addressed jointly by Ambassador Dr. Parajuli and Mayor Mrs. Dahal.
The event was attended by around 130 people, including individuals from Junior Female Leaders, students and professors from IE University, vloggers, media personnel, and other distinguished guests from a diverse array of fields.
