Embassy of Nepal in Spain Celebrates National and Constitution Day with Grand Reception in Madrid

 The Embassy of Nepal in Spain celebrated the National Day and the Constitution Day of Nepal with a grand reception in Madrid on 20 SEP 2023.

The event began with the playing of the national anthems of the Kingdom of Spain and Nepal. Her Excellency Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal to Spain, delivered a heartfelt welcome speech in which she emphasized the enduring spirit of the Nepali people in their journey towards democracy and their pivotal role in promulgating the Constitution of Nepal. Reflecting on the robust bilateral ties between Nepal and Spain, she expressed optimism about strengthening these relations further, with a focus on areas like trade, tourism, sports, education, agriculture, and culture. Ambassador Dr. Parajuli also highlighted the horse race program organized by the Embassy, which not only celebrated the 55th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Spain but also aimed to promote Nepali tourism, culture, and raise awareness about the impacts of climate change on our mountains and glaciers.

H.E. Dr. Parajuli, Mr. Bimal Dhakal, and esteemed officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEC) of the Kingdom of Spain came together to cut the ceremonial cake, marking the formal segment of the evening.

This was followed with a cultural segment that showcased Nepal’s rich heritage. Renowned Nepali singer Ms. Rita K.C. enchanted the audience with her soulful renditions. Attendees also enjoyed a visual journey through Nepal’s beautiful landscapes and vibrant traditions, presented through the display of videos provided by the Nepal Tourism Board. These videos were played continuously throughout the evening, complemented by a display of exquisite Nepali handicrafts. In addition to the cultural offerings, guests were served with an array of Nepali cuisines, including Momos, offering guests a taste of Nepal’s rich gastronomic heritage.

Over 150 distinguished guests attended the reception, including Ambassadors, Consuls General, Officials from the MAEC, Representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps in Madrid, members of the Nepali Diaspora, and luminaries from sports, business, art, and media in Spain.
