Her Excellency Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, accompanied by Embassy officials, visited Barcelona for meetings with officials from Catalonia from February 8 to February 10, 2024. In addition, on February 9, 2024, a consular camp and an Interaction Program with the Diaspora were organized.
On February 8, 2024, Ambassador Dr. Parajuli met with officials from the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. The discussions focused on inviting potential investors from Catalonia to participate in the upcoming Investment Summit in Nepal. Various areas of potential collaboration, including tourism practices, the IT sector, and waste management, were also explored during the meeting.
Following this, Ambassador Dr. Parajuli met with Mr. Ignasi Subira, Director of the Cabinet of Foreign Affairs and the European Union, and Ms. Anna Gonzalez, Program Director of Relations for the Consular Corps. The meeting was centered on the contributions of the Nepali Diaspora to Catalonia in terms of culture, art, and gastronomy, among other areas. Similarly, potential areas for collaboration, such as tourism, sports, and technology transfer, were discussed.
In the afternoon, Ambassador Dr. Parajuli met with Mr. Felip Roca, Director of International Relations of the Mayor’s Office of Barcelona. Mr Pau Solanilla,Commissioner for International Relations and City Promotion.
The discussion centered on new avenues of collaboration with Barcelona, along with the need to develop a sister city relationship with cities in Nepal. This was followed by a meeting with His Excellency Javier Parrondo, Director General of Casa Asia, in which potential collaborations to promote Nepal’s tourism, gastronomy, cinema, and language, among others, were discussed.
On February 9, 2024, the Embassy initiated consular services for the Nepali Diaspora living in Catalonia. The consular services, provided over two days, saw approximately 300 Nepali Diaspora enrolling for e-passports and other consular services, along with participating in an Interaction Program with the Ambassador.
Similary, Ambassador Dr. Parajuli attended a program organized by the Nepali Pathshala in Barcelona on the occasion of Saraswati Puja as a Chief Guest, in which she congratulated Pathshala for their contribution in promoting Nepali language, art and culture and celebrated with children.
