Ambassador Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal Presents Credentials to King Felipe VI of Spain in Ceremonial Madrid Event

 Her Excellency Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Kingdom of Spain, presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Felipe VI amidst a special ceremony held at Royal Palace of Madrid, on 21 OCT 2022.

H.E. Dr. Parajuli was received at Palacio De Santa Cruz by the Deputy Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEC) of Spain where she was given the ‘Guard of Honour’. Then, the Ambassador was escorted by Spain’s Royal Guard in a formal procession from Palacio de Santa Cruz to the Royal Palace, where Nepal’s National Anthem was played by the band of the Royal Guards. There she presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Felipe VI accompanied by the Embassy’s diplomatic team. The Ambassador and the King were then joined by the Foreign Secretary Mr. Luis Manuel Cuesta Civis, for a private audience to discuss the bilateral relationship between Nepal and Spain.

His Majesty congratulated the Ambassador and expressed his best wishes to the Right Honourable President of Nepal. His Majesty also expressed his best wishes to the Ambassador for her successful tenure and expressed his satisfaction on the existing bilateral relations between the two countries. His Majesty expressed his heartfelt condolence on the loss of lives of Nepali people during the pandemic and the recent flood in Nepal. His Majesty vividly remembered his unofficial trip to Nepal, and expressed his desire to visit Nepal again at a suitable time.

H.E. Dr. Parajuli conveyed to His Majesty, the warm greetings of the Right Honourable President Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari and extended, through His Majesty the best wishes of the Government and people of Nepal to the Government and people of Spain. H.E. Dr. Parajuli reiterated her profound gratitude to the Government of Nepal for having been given this opportunity to represent Nepal in Spain. She also thanked the Government of Spain, as one of the earliest members of European Union, for the in-kind humanitarian aid sent to Nepal during the testing times of COVID-19.

The Ambassador also updated His Majesty on a wide range of issues ranging from foreign policy to development plans and programs of Nepal. She expressed her commitment to tirelessly endeavour to further strengthen the bilateral relation and cooperation existing between the two countries and people.

The ceremony was attended by Foreign Secretary, Chief of Protocol from MAEC, Chief of Protocol of the Royal Palace, Embassy officials, Ambassador’s family, and Spanish Media among others.
