Embassy of Nepal in Madrid Celebrates Fagu Purnima and International Women’s Day

The Embassy of Nepal in Madrid successfully hosted a celebration of Holi on the occasion of Fagu Purnima and International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2023. Held at the ambassador’s residence, the event was attended by a diverse group of people, including ambassadors, dignitaries from the government of Spain, diplomats, influential Spanish nationals, and other expatriates.
The purpose of the event was to promote cultural exchange and celebrate the vibrant festival of colors, which is widely celebrated in Nepal. In addition, the embassy took the opportunity to recognize International Women’s Day and highlight the contributions of women in Nepalese society and around the world.
The celebration began with remarks from Her Excellency Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, the Ambassador of Nepal to Spain. She expressed gratitude to all who participated in the event and emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and diversity in a multicultural city like Madrid. She described Holi as a festival that celebrates the rich culture and diversity of Nepal, a country that symbolizes bravery, compassion, and peaceful vo-existence.
Ambassador Dhakal also recognized the invaluable contributions of women in various sectors of society, from education and healthcare to politics and business. She emphasized the critical role women and girls play in shaping the world around us and expressed her firm commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s and girls’s empowerment.
The celebration continued with a cultural program that included Nepalese folk dances, festive songs, and music from different parts of the world, reflecting the diversity of cultures around the globe. Attendees enjoyed delicious Nepalese cuisine, including Bhakka, Selroti, MoMo, Sekuwa, Aloko Acchar, and Masu Pulau , which added more attractions to the festive atmosphere.
The Embassy of Nepal in Madrid organized the event in collaboration with organizations in Spain, which helped make the celebration a huge success. The embassy looks forward to organizing similar events in the future, which will not only promote cultural exchange but also strengthen the ties between Nepal and Spain.
