During his visit, Rt. Hon’ble Speaker Mr. Sapkota addressed the Assembly on the “Contemporary Challenge to democracy: Overcoming division and building community” theme. He highlighted Nepal’s commitment towards strengthening democratic institutions by addressing contemporary challenges to democracy. He appreciated IPU Assembly as an extraordinary forum for bringing together the legislators and policymakers from across the globe to discuss contemporary issues. He commended the IPU for its activeness even in these testing times of COVID-19.
During his visit, Rt. Hon’ble Speaker Mr. Sapkota also attended the Inaugural Meeting of the Parliamentary Network of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). In his address at the Inaugural Meeting, he reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment towards NAM’s principles and values. He highlighted the importance of parliamentary solidarity and exchange of experiences in consolidating NAM principles and ideals.
On the sidelines, the Rt. Hon’ble Speaker held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from various countries.
The Rt. Hon’ble Speaker Mr. Sapkota and his delegation also attended the welcome reception hosted in his honor, by the Chargé d’affaires Mr. Arjun Adhikari, at the Ambassador’s Residence.
While in Madrid, the Rt. Hon’ble Speaker and his delegation visited Lumbini Garden Foundation’s Office and also had interaction with the Nepalese Diaspora in a program organized by the Non-Residential Nepalese Association (NRNA), Spain.
The Rt. Hon’ble Speaker and the members of the Nepali delegation were seen off at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport by Chargé d’affaires Mr. Arjun Adhikari and other officials, from the Embassy of Nepal in Madrid, today.
